The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is a consortium of states working together to develop a modern assessment that replaces previous state standardized tests. The assessments are designed not only to evaluate a student’s progress but also to provide better information for teachers and parents to identify
where a student needs help, or is excelling, so they are able to enhance instruction to meet individual student needs.
The PARCC assessment system is made up of two categories of tools: annual tests and instructional tools. Annual tests are English language arts and literacy, and mathematics tests for students in grades 3-8 and high school. Instructional tools include formative tasks for grades K-2, 3-8, and high school; diagnostic tools; speaking and listening tools; and performance-based modules.
The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers is based in Washington, District of Columbia.
