Carold Institute is a charitable foundation that supports civic leadership, democratic participation, and voluntary action through fellowships, learning programs, and publications. It offers sabbatical-style fellowships and cohort-based experiences for community leaders working at the intersection of social and environmental justice, including the
Alan Thomas Fellowship, Just Futures, Cohort X, and the Flourishing Leadership Fellowship. The Institute convenes learning days, circles, and dialogue spaces on topics such as citizenship, globalization, and local and global democracy, and documents insights in reports, books, films, and podcasts. It also stewards targeted funds such as the Arpi Hamalian Fund and the Flourishing Leadership Fund to reduce participation barriers for under-represented groups and to resource reflective leadership. Through these activities, Carold Institute contributes research and practice-based knowledge on civil society, volunteerism, and social change.
