infoGROUP, founded in 1972 by Vin Gupta, is the leading compiler of 12 proprietary databases. These databases capture detailed information on majority of businesses and consumer households in the United States and Canada.
All of the InfoGroup databases are compiled under one roof in Papillion, Nebraska. More than 700 full time staff compile and update the databases from thousands of public sources such as Yellow Pages, White Pages, newspapers, incorporation records, real estate deed transfers and various other sources.
For the business database, InfoGroup makes more than 26 million phone calls a year to verify the name of the owner or key executive, their address, number of employees, number of PCs, fax numbers, email addresses and other information.
The databases change by roughly 70% per year. InfoGroup spends over $50 million a year to update these databases.
InfoGroup has also developed proprietary software for direct marketing applications, database marketing applications, email marketing applications, telemarketing applications and other sophisticated modeling applications.

infoGROUPâ€™s Services Group consists of subsidiaries providing customer data management and brokerage services, email marketing services, and catalog marketing services. The Services Group has a sales force of more than 200 account executives that call on Fortune 1000 companies. These clients have a sophisticated need for databases, database marketing and email marketing. The Services Group consists of several companies that specialize in their own respective markets. They include Walter Karl, Edith Roman, Triplex, Yesmail and Direct Media.
infoGROUP has an extensive distribution channel into medium-sized businesses, small businesses, small office/home office (SOHO) markets and sales executives. InfoGroup sells directly to these markets via distribution channels such as direct mail, telemarketing, email marketing, and a direct sales force. InfoGroup has more than 600 account executives who have developed relationships with these clients.
Subscription Sales Model
Initially, infoGROUP sold information on an â€œas neededâ€ basis. Realizing that customers need this information every day, InfoGroup developed several subscription services, including Credit.net, DirectoriesUSA, DrListExpress.com, City Directories, newleadsUSA, and Polk City Directories.
infoGROUP also developed Salesgenie.com, an Internet-based subscription service.
Global services include idEXEC, infoUK, infoCanada, and Onesource Information Services.
infoGroup licenses its database to leading GPS and online databases. Clients include Yahoo!, Microsoft, OnStar, and Google.
