The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 has resulted in many paid online poker sites no longer offering their services to the US market. Many Americans have turned to free online poker. In fact, according to Ujogo more than 30 million U.S. adults spend more than 5 billion hours playing free online poker annually.
Ujogo claims the quality of play and competitiveness at most free online poker sites is not very good. They’re trying to make their site different by offering a store with a variety of poker-related products and literature. Items in the store can be purchased via traditional methods or by redeeming Ujogo Points. Points are accrued based on time spent on Ujogo.
The site just launched, so there aren’t many players yet. After playing for about 10 minutes I was ranked number 5 on the cash leaderboard. In addition to the games, Ujogo has a “Poker 101” section for new players and will eventually offer tournaments and other promotions. In its current stage (only one game available and no way to redeem points) Ujogo is not the best free poker offering out there. However, that could change once they officially launch.
