Seeking Alpha is financial news aggregator launched in early 2004 by founder David Jackson. They are based out of New York and received an undisclosed round of financing from Benchmark Capital in September 2006.
Also in September 2006, they announced a deal with Yahoo to include their content in Yahoo Finance with no profits being shared either way. Seeking Alpha earns revenue by placing ads and hedge fund jobs on their website.
When you go to the site you find that it’s different than other news aggregators, like TechMeme, in that Seeking Alpha uses editors to hand-pick articles from over 200 contributors. Seeking Alpha’s editors select interesting articles, edit them to guarantee quality and consistency, and arrange and tag them so they can be easily found and subscribed to by stock ticker, sector and them.
The articles are written by investors, which include hedge fund managers and financial newsletter authors. Seeking Alpha’s editors select articles with the following readers in mind: money managers, investment bankers and individual investors.
