Rocketboom is a three minute long daily vlog founded by Andrew Baron and Amanda Congdon. The site, based in New York City, debuted in 2004, and has been named by Compete as one of the web’s fastest-growing internet startups.

The site’s daily video is usually presented as a newscast, and offers a humorous take on a number of topics, including political commentary, social movements, and oddities. The show often includes clips of apparently random footage that isn’t especially relevant to the subject being discussed, adding to the show’s unpredictability. Notable episodes include footage of the host standing in a park and asking bystanders, “Mac or PC?”

Rocketboom was hosted by Amanda Congdon from October 26, 2004 until June 23, 2006, at which point she issued a video statement saying that she would no longer be the show’s host. Her departure has been the source of controversy, as Congdon has gone on to say that she was fired (the show’s producer Andrew Baron claimed that she left to pursue her own interests in Los Angeles).

The show now features Joanne Colan, who began hosting on July 12, 2006. There were initially worries that Colan would not be able to replace Congdon (who was considered to be ‘the face of Rocketboom’). However, the site has continued to grow, and is now syndicated on the video blogging site blip.tv
