Flying is an iPhone app designed to make air travel better. It is useful, insightful and social.
With Flying, users keep track of all their flights with up-to-date information. They can revisit past flights and view insights about their travel patterns with visualizations. There is a social component and game mechanics, which help in keeping tracks of ones friends’ flights and achievements or compete to see who’s flown the most. It aims to make air travel feel special again and, along the way, to bring some of the elegance and panache back.
Katie Kindinger, Markus Schmeiduch and Andrew Spitz while at The Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design created a concept iPhone app for logging flights. Panos Meyer, now the managing director, saw the video online and contacted the trio to turn this concept into a product. Since October 2012, the concept was formalized under the company SEAT 4a and has secured a series A round of investment. With Sebastian Schuster, part of the initial concept and now doing the iOS development and Johannes Lerch doing the backend development they are a team of six.
