Diner Dash is one of PlayFirst’s major hit games. The Diner Dash series has been downloaded more than 550 million times since its debut and is currently a hit iPhone and iPad game in the App Store.
Diner Dash is a time management game in which players take on the role of Flo and run their own diner. Gameplay involves seating and serving customers using your mouse to guide Flo in her tasks. If enough money is earned after each level, play progresses to the next. Flo can upgrade the restaurant she works in, either in terms of decor or functionality.
There are 5 games in the download series: Diner Dash, Diner Dash 2: Restaurant Rescue, Diner Dash: Flo on the Go, Diner Dash: Hometown Hero and Diner Dash 5: BOOM!
The 4th game in the Diner Dash series, Diner Dash: Hometown Hero offered players the option to purchase unique items and standalone restaurants, customize their own characters and diners, and share their designs with others. Multiplayer was another feature that players enjoyed: players could pair up online for competitive or cooperative play and challenge opponents in diners they created while playing with their My Waiter avatars. Standalone restaurants were regularly released during the year after Diner Dash: Hometown Hero’s launch – players could purchase these restaurants via microtransactions to add another venue to their game and play additional levels. This feature was offered by PlayFirst well before the days of in-App purchase.
The latest Diner Dash download game, Diner Dash 5: BOOM!, was the first casual game to use Facebook to affect gameplay. Players of the download game could gift Flo’s SuperSneakers to their friends on Facebook. Recipients could then use the Super Sneakers in the download game, where it gave them a significant playing advantage. Players could also share and compare high scores and trophies they earned on Facebook. This feature was discontinued when the company turned its focus from social to mobile where it now enjoys several years of success with Diner Dash in the App Store.
