Groupsite.com (formerly CollectiveX) provides an impressively refined way for people to share information and content amongst a group within a controlled, social network environment. The main features of a Groupsite include an integrated discussions, calendar, forum, blog, file storage, photo gallery, sub-groups (which include all features of the top-level Groupsite). Additionally, Groupsites include dual user profiles (professional or social) so that Groupsite creators can chose the nature of their network. These offerings are all very group-centric (social collaboration) and are focused on the group as a whole versus individuals (i.e., social networks).
Unique to CollectiveX is the ability of a network’s members to list personal objectives and to declare any “key connections” (read: relationships) they have with particular individuals. These features reinforce the feeling that groupsites are meant primarily for groups that are looking to collaborative make things happen versus other social distractions.
Groupsite.com’s free package off 80% of the full functionality and is supported by advertisements. Additional add-on features include domain name mapping, premium branding, statistics, advanced permission controls, 128-bit security, additional storage (250 MB included fee), etc. On the enterprise side, CollectiveX will “white label” your network, which basically entails just dropping your own graphic into the header and importing members from another user base. Additionally, the company also offers a GroupsitePro addition that includes all of the features and doesn’t have any ads (unless you decide to run your own internal ads). The GroupsitePro edition is priced per seat starting from $600/yr. and is targeted at business, non-profit and educational groups.
