Amazon Fresh is the new WebVan; an online grocery delivery service. Offering everything you might find at your local produce market, Amazon’s produce vans will deliver fresh, frozen or shelf-stable food items to your front door or save them for you at a pick up point in your neighborhood. Users order their food products online and can expect to have them delivered within a one hour window the next day or in the morning before breakfast. Delivery is free on orders above a minimum price, and all pick ups are free anytime during the day for any size order.Webvan, Amazon’s supposed model for its new service, had a spectacular IPO and expanded quickly into 26 cities before going bankrupt in 2001. Before it closed down, Webvan acquired competitor HomeGrocer. Coincidentally, Amazon was an investor in HomeGrocer.Amazon Fresh is currently in the larger Seattle, Washington area.
