30Boxes is a social-enabled online calendar application that is looking to simplify the act of maintaining a calendar while adding increased functionality at the same time. Users start by creating an account and adding events to their calendar, which can be done by typing natural language phrases into the One Box for adding events.
As a user adds buddies, they can choose whether or not to share their calendar or parts of their calendar (by tag) with that buddy, and can also make events private so no other user can see them. As buddies add information related to blog RSS feeds, photo albums, avatars and other features, a user can edit that buddy’s profile to have the info appear when you are looking at events related to them on your calendar.
The management team behind 30 Boxes and its parent company 83 Degrees also founded and oversaw the sale of Webshots to Excite@Home in 1999, buy back in 2001, and finally a sale to CNET networks in 2004. 83 Degrees is also the company behind fbExchange, a Facebook application advertising network.
Other web-based social calendar applications include Scrybe and Upcoming.
