Vijay Subramanian is the Chief Analytics Officer at Rent the Runway, a transformative brand that offers unprecedented access to designer fashion, disrupting the way millions of women get dressed. As CAO, Vijay is a partner to the CEO in using big data as a strategic asset for the company, helping drive business decisions across marketing, operations, product and technology, inventory buying and planning, and customer service. Vijay designed the backend systems and algorithms that power the complex eco-system of rental reservations, order fulfillment, returns processing and the overall customer experience. Vijay is widely credited with building Rent the Runway’s proprietary “reverse logistics” operations, in which a fundamental part of the process is receiving inventory back to the Rent the Runway warehouse for same-day turnaround. Vijay manages the pricing and revenue management systems and is also leading the charge on building the next generation personalized experience for Rent the Runway users via all channels.
Prior to joining Rent the Runway, Vijay served as the Engagement Director for Oracle Retail, focusing on acquiring new business and communicating the science and value proposition of Oracle’s analytical products to key senior executives in the retail industry. Before taking on the role of Engagement Director, Vijay was Lead Scientist at ProfitLogic, acquired by Oracle in 2005, where, under his leadership, a team of analysts and data scientists built and implemented sophisticated analytical products at several retailers. Prior to Oracle, Vijay served as a Research Scientist for Procter & Gamble.
Vijay received a Bachelor’s of Technology in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, and both a Master of Science and PhD in Operations Research from Purdue University. Vijay currently resides with his wife in New York City.
