Ex-MTV employee, Toby Barnes is currently Strategic Product Director at AKQA, based in London.
Toby has built an international reputation for delivering ground-breaking digital and mobile experiences. He is currently at AKQA where he leads the conception and creation of branded content and services, as well as working as Product Director for Nike.
Since 1995, Toby has been delivering digital products and services, working in many roles in media and digital through publishing, production and development. His career has spanned across a number of key industry leaders such as Emap, Virgin, MTV Networks, and Two Way TV Games. He has also worked with a number of global clients including Microsoft, SCEE, Electronic Arts, RSC, Channel 4 and Mattel. As a founding member of Virgin Media's Interactive Division launching Europe's first commercial interactive TV service.
Most recently Toby was one of the principals at the Mudlark Production Company, and Executive Producer on Chromaroma, an award winning urban social game that uses your Oyster card journeys as a currency for play.
He has spoken at a large number of events such as Playful, SXSW, GDC, and Interesting on playful design, cheating, cities, play and open data. He is an advisor to the Greater London Authority, and the Mayor of London on a range of digital issues.
