Timothy B. Jones has over 15 years of executive experience starting new companies and developing new businesses in the technology industry.
As a 2007 MIT Sloan Fellow, he and colleagues conducted a research project with Google on software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications. This research led Mr. Jones to co-found Buzzient, a SaaS application provider that enables marketers and advertising agencies to conduct business intelligence on social media for improved brand management and customer service.
Prior to Buzzient, Mr. Jones was CEO of BionTTech, a Georgia Tech spin-off company that focused on explosive detection for homeland security; Mr. Jones led the IP protection process leading to US Patent # 7,413,892. Mr. Jones identified BionTTech after helping launch the east coast office of Mohr, Davidow Ventures (MDV), an early stage venture capital firm with over $1B under management. While at MDV, Mr. Jones specialized in technology commercialization from universities and national labs.
Previously, Mr. Jones was Founder, Chairman and CEO of Eba Systems, a mobile and wireless application company for customer relationship management (CRM) that was acquired by Iormyx. Mr. Jones was also the founding Vice President of Business Development of CRM software company OnDemand, which was acquired by Chordiant Software.
Mr. Jones has worked as a key contributor with two early stage companies from early stage through IPO; database vendor Sybase (IPO 1991) and systems management company OpenVision Technologies (IPO 1996). He led numerous alliance efforts in North America and Europe for OpenVision from startup through to its $400M acquisition by Veritas Software, generating over $50M in cumulative revenues with partners such as Sun Microsystems, British Telecom, Credit Suisse, and SAP. Mr. Jones started his career in the International Division of Oracle Corporation, where as HQ Marketing Manager he was responsible for sales, marketing and technical support for Global 1000 accounts.
Mr. Jones holds a B.S. in Management Science from MIT, a M.S. in Computer Information Systems from Georgia State University, and a MBA from MIT as a Sloan Fellow. He also holds Certificates in Biotechnology from Duke University, Nanotechnology from Stanford University, and French Language from EuroCentre in Paris, France. Mr. Jones is a past National Achievement Scholar and was also named to Georgia Trend Magazineâ€™s 1999 â€œ40 under 40â€ list.
Mr. Jones has served as a member of the Committee of Visitors and an Information Technology Panel Reviewer for the National Science Foundation Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program since 2001. Past boards/memberships include the Advisory Board of the Georgia Tech VentureLab, the Atlanta Chapter of Business Executives for National Security (BENS), and the Board of Directors of Computers for Classrooms. Mr. Jones is currently a member of the MIT Rowing Club, and competes in Masters rowing and sculling events.
