Ted joined Charles River in 1996 and has more than nineteen years of experience in early-stage venture investing, focusing on software and information services companies. He has been an early and active investor in numerous successful start-ups including several that had successful IPOs (Acusphere, Be Free, Entelos, Flycast, Ibis Technology,
Individual, NetGenesis, Software Quality Automation and Vignette) or were acquired on a very favorable basis (Brontes Technologies, edocs, Novera, PCs Compleat, Venetica, Upromise, WebSpective and Ximian). Ted is currently a director of Compete and Netezza.
Prior to his career in venture, Ted was general manager of the Digital Signal Processing Division of Analog Devices, which he directed from the start-up phase to a leading position in a rapidly-growing sector of the semiconductor industry. His work experience also includes two years as a Congressional staff assistant, where he contributed to science and technology policy.
Ted earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from Stanford University, concentrating on mathematical modeling and optimization theory. His undergraduate degree is from the College of William and Mary, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with High Honors in Physics and English.
