As CEO of TMT Ventures since February 2002 Sohaib is responsible for managing a portfolio of six companies in technology, media and telecom sectors. He set up Pakistan’s first incubation fund with local institutional investment. Along with his team he is responsible for supporting and growing existing portfolio companies, seeking profitable exits and raising new funds. He achieved the first exit for the Fund in 2006 in a historic cross border transaction.
Sohaib brings with him global outlook and exposure gained as Regional Internet/e-commerce analyst for CLSA Emerging Markets based in Hong Kong. He has eight years of regional research experience in telecommunications, utilities and Internet sectors working for top tiered brokerage firms. Prior to joining TMT Ventures Sohaib was working as Assistant Strategist in CLSA’s regional strategy team, where he advised fund manger clients on market strategy. Before that he headed a team of ten analysts across Asia as CLSA�s regional Internet analyst. His team was ranked top three by the Greenwich survey in 2000. Before his transfer to Hong Kong Sohaib was heading CLSA Pakistan research. Reuters ranked him Pakistan�s number one chemical sector analyst. Sohaib was instrumental in improving CLSA Pakistan�s Asiamoney ranking from 3rd to 2nd in 1998. He also contributed actively to regional economics and telecoms research.
Sohaib is an MBA in finance from Institute of Business Administration, Karachi and obtained the CFA charter in 1999 from CFA Institute. He is a founding member of CFA Association of Pakistan, member society of CFA Institute, and was its Vice President for four years. He is also a charter member of TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) Karachi Chapter. He recently completed a one-year Post Graduate Diploma in Islamic finance from Center for Islamic Economics, Karachi.
