Scott Wheeler

Scott Wheeler is the co-founder of Directed Edge, based in Berlin, Germany. Originally from the United States, he studied computer science at Calvin College, where he was also published for his work in quantum optics. In 2001 he became active in the KDE project, one of the largest Open Source projects, where he was for many years a core-developer. From 2002 to 2006 he was a developer in the SAP LinuxLab. While at SAP he did the first ports of the SAP R/3 kernel to 64-bit Linux and maintained portions of SAP’s platform independence layer.

During that time he became interested in information graphs, and was an invited speaker at conferences and academic institutions in North and South America, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. That work would later become the conceptual foundation for Directed Edge’s recommendation engine.

From 2006 to 2008 he worked for the 150-person Berlin audio software firm, Native Instruments, alumni of which have gone on to found many of Berlin’s startups, most notably Ableton and Babbel.

In 2008, after acquiring German permanent residence he co-founded Directed Edge together with Valentin Hussong.
