As General Partner at Bay Partners I’ve led our investments in DynaTrace (performance management for enterprise apps), SpringSource (open source; acquired by VMware), Buddy Media (brand management on Facebook & Twitter), G2One (open source; acquired by SpringSource), LendingClub (peer to peer loans), Engine Yard (open source; cloud; Ruby on Rails), Sonatype (open source build automation and distribution), MuleSoft (open source middleware), Jambool (virtual currencies and payments; acquired by Google), Finestrella (microlending in Mexico), Cake Financial (social investing; acquired by E*Trade), Marketocracy (social investing), Financial Content (syndicated financial content), Triggit (real-time bidding across ad exchanges), FantasyBook (on-Facebook fantasy sports apps; acquired by Citizen Sports, now part of Yahoo), and Vaxart (oral vaccines).
I also created and led Bay’s Seed Program, a fast-track process for investing $250K-$750K in bold out-of-the-box capital-efficient ideas, including applications and services atop social graphs, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Investments that I did not lead, but have inherited, include Tealeaf (customer experience management), Plastic Jungle (eBay for gift cards), Eventful (the world’s largest database of events), PurePlay (subscription-based real-money online poker), Dropcam (webcams with cloud-based DVR service), M-Factor (marketing spend decisions), Elastra (cloud infrastructure), and Apigee (API management).
Prior, I was founder and CEO of Customware, a CORBA services company (acquired by Visigenic, now part of Borland), co-founder and CEO of The Middleware Company (acquired by Precise, now part of Symantec), and of TheServerSide.com network of social media sites (acquired by TechTarget).
Prior, I held technical leadership positions at several technology companies including Sun Microsystems, taught summer courses at Stanford University, and have been an advisor to several companies.
