Rupert Pennant-Rea was appointed as a non-executive director of the Economist Group in August 2006. He is chairman of Henderson Group and a director of British American Tobacco, Go-Ahead Group, Gold Fields and Times Newspapers. He was editor of The Economist from 1986 to 1993 and deputy governor of the Bank of England from 1993 to 1995.
