Roger Jenkins is known as one of the most highly rewarded financial experts in the U.K. A successful banker, his savvy and accurate tax expertise has helped his clients save millions in reduced tax payments.

Roger Jenkins is executive chairman of Barclays Investment Banking and Investment Management in the Middle East. It was through his unique business relationship with Sheikh Hamad Al-Thani of Qatar that he accumulated investments credited with saving Barclays from possible financial collapse.

Background

The son of an oil refinery manager, Roger Jenkins was educated in Edinburgh, Scotland where he earned a BA in economics from Heriot Watt University. He and his brother, David, were both talented athletes (Roger was a sprinter), but it was David who won a silver medal for Great Britain for his 400m relay performance during the 1972 Olympics in Munich.

Joining Barclays Capital

Roger Jennings began working at Barclays as Head of Structured Capital Markets in 1994. Since then, he has worked his way up to his current position as chief executive of Barclays Capital’s Private Equity, Principal Investments and Structured Capital Markets.

Throughout his career, Roger Jenkins has made his mark in the banking world through highly complicated schemes of tax arbitrage.Using his expertise he successfully reduces revenues and customs of large corporations and wealthy businessmen by making the most tax systems in the world.

Roger Jenkins has a reputation of the man who gets the job done, earning him the nickname of the “go-to” man. Even in these days of intense economic difficulties, he has preserved Barclays’ independence by bringing in investors from Qatar and Abu Dhabi. Through his careful and intricate negotiations with these investors, deals were closed which brought £8bn investment to Barclays, sparing it from government sponsored bailout package.

It was also Roger Jenkins who designed the auction for the fund management operation called iShares. In order to ensure the auction would be won by the highest bidder , he added the “go shop” clause during the selling process.
