Raj Abhyanker

Raj Abhyanker is a U.S. patent attorney focusing on U.S. patent preparation, prosecution, and due diligence litigation support. Raj has been registered with the United States patent bar since November 1999.

Raj has drafted and prosecuted United States patent applications for companies including RockYou, MOG, Ganz, Fatdoor, eBay, Adobe, Apple Computer, Inmage, Gainspan, Texas Instruments, Aesthera, Intel, Redback Networks, SonicWALL, Openwave Communications, and numerous other companies. In 1999, Raj wrote a book on taking the U.S. Patent Bar exam, which has been distributed nationally by REA Publishing. Raj’s book has been reviewed by the American Bar Association, the National Association of Patent Practitioners, and has sold more than 5,000 copies worldwide through Amazon and B&N.com. Raj has excellent English analytical writing skills, and received a 99th percentile rank on the GMAT analytical writing section.

Prior to entering law practice, Raj was an entrepreneur, electrical engineer, inventor, and business executive. In 1994, Raj created AOLClassifieds.com (acquired by AOL). In 1995, Raj created MacInsider.com, which by 1996 became one of the most popular Apple news portals on the Internet. Also, in 2006, Raj was a Founder, CEO and early investor of Fatdoor.com, which raised more than $5.5M in venture capital financing in 2007 from leading Silicon Valley investors including Norwest Venture Partners and Keynote Partners.

Raj started his professional career as an electrical engineer for Lockheed Martin Corporation in Minneapolis, MN and Hewlett Packard in Cupertino, CA specializing in ASIC design for hi-speed communication technologies and reverse logistics. Later, he worked as as a Director of Supply Chain and at Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR) between 1999-2002.

He has been an invited speaker at a number of national conferences, including the Harvard Business School Cyberposium Conference, University of Chicago College of Business, Northwestern Kellogg School of Business, and TiE Silicon Valley. In addition, Raj is very active in community service in the bay area.

Raj holds BS in Electrical Engineering (with Honors recognition), MBA in Business Administration (Pepsi Cola Merit Scholar), and Juris Doctorate degrees from Arizona State University.

Raj is a member of the State Bar of California (active), United States Patent Bar (active), and the State Bar of Minnesota (active). Raj Abhyanker is a Charter Member of TiE Silicon Valley.
