Peter Klein

Peter Klein is the CFO for Microsoft. Prior to being named Microsoft CFO, Klein served as corporate vice president and CFO of highly profitable Business Division (MBD), overseeing the financial performance of the division which includes the Microsoft Office System, Unified Communications, Microsoft Business Solutions and other businesses.

In this role, Klein was responsible for overall financial management including financial and strategic planning, reporting and analysis as well as communications to the investment community.

Klein was named to the CFO position in November, 2009, and is slated to take over at the beginning of 2010 from Chris Liddell.

Before joining MBD in February 2006, Klein was CFO of Microsoft’s Server & Tools Business Group (STB). He joined Microsoft in 2002.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Klein spent 13 years in corporate finance in the Seattle area, primarily in the communications and technology sectors. This included senior roles at McCaw Cellular Communications; Orca Bay Capital, a private equity firm; and several startups, including Homegrocer.com, where as vice president and treasurer he helped lead an IPO and subsequent acquisition by Webvan.

Klein holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington. Outside of work, he is an avid sports fan and serves on the board of NPower Seattle, a non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of non-profit service providers through technology. He and his wife have two sons.
