Having worked in the field of IT from the age of 16, Peter Berg Steffensen’s nearly 30-year tenure brings together solid IT and business savvy with a deep appreciation for the social sciences. He has developed business strategies, patents, systems and methodologies for a number of successful companies – both Danish, Swedish and American – in the financial services, software and digital industries.
As chief executive officer of Syntonetic Media Solution (aka Moodagent) in Denmark, Steffensen leads all business activities, as well as technological advancements, IP and product execution. Steffensen co-founded Syntonetic Media Solution in 2000, with the goal of developing IP and products to make digital music easy to explore, playlist and recommend, and co-wrote the “playmaker†patent that was granted to Syntonetic in 2008.
From 2004-2006, Steffensen was CTO of Playahead.com, responsible for defining the technology, methodology and business strategy for the evolution toward internationalization of the company’s social network platform. Having initiated this process, he continued in the capacity of Business Development Manager and Chief Music Strategist and played an integral role in the establishment of partnerships in the UK and Denmark.
In 2004, Steffensen co-invented the Danish IT-platform for accessibility information capture, match and presentation, and still acts as a consultant on solution engineering, development and integration.
Steffensen has also served as CTO of Swedish software company Dimac, responsible for defining and executing the company’s future technology and product vision, including the specification and implementation of a general software development methodology.
In 1999, Steffensen joined Internet start-up Brokerserver Inc. in Virgina, as CTO, leading definition and implementation of the company’s technology vision and strategy. There he wrote the company’s foundational patent on real-time Internet-based sourcing and matching of business and product/service profiles, and served as the technical expert in dealings with commercial partners AIG, DHL, American Express, Telia and SingTel.
Steffensen’s major academic foray into the world of music and the mind was in 1992, when he completed Ph.D.-level courses in cognitive science at the University of Sussex in the UK. His interest in cognitive science was reinforced when recruited by Computer Resources International (CRI) as a software engineer. While at CRI, he worked on an intelligent, automated balance sheet compilation system for Dunn & Bradstreet, and an international research project for artificial intelligence in military command and control.
Steffensen holds a MSc in Business Administration and Computer Science from Copenhagen Business School in Denmark and has course work towards a PhD in Cognitive Science at the University of Sussex. He enjoys music, travel, reading and sports, including soccer, tennis, squash and skiing … and good glass of wine.
