Ã’scar Celma is the Chief Innovation Officer at Barcelona Music and Audio Technologies (BMAT). In 2008, Ã’scar obtained his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Digital Communication, in the Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain).
Ã’scar has published a book named “Music Recommendation and Discovery: The Long Tail, Long Fail, and Long Play in the Digital Music Space” (Springer, 2010), as well as more than 40 research papers. Ã’scar holds 2 patents (US2003009344 and JP2003323188, 2002) from his work on the Vocaloid system, a singing voice-synthesizer bought by Yamaha in 2004.
Ã’scar worked in the Music Technology Group (MTG) from 2000 till 2008 as a Researcher and Program Manager. At the MTG he was involved in several EU projects, such as SIMAC, Cuidado, Pharos, and Opendrama. In 2006, he received the 2nd prize in the International Semantic Web Challenge for the system named “Foafing the Music” (a personalized music recommendation and discovery application). Since 2006 he is an Invited Expert of the W3C Multimedia Semantics Incubator Group.
