Niall is an entrepreneur, angel investor and technologist.
He founded Evrythng in late 2009 with Andy Hobsbawm, a software company providing active online identities for objects. He is CEO of Ideaworks3D Limited, which trades as Marmalade and makes software that lets developers build and distribute cross-platform applications. Niall is principal of Kubu Ventures and is actively engaged in a number of mobile and internet technology investments.
Previously Niall co-founded The Cloud, Europe’s leading public WiFi network operator. The Cloud was acquired by British Sky Broadcasting in January 2011.
Niall has authored and presented numerous papers around the world. He was a co-author of the International Roaming Access Protocols framework in 2005, adopted by IETF as a basis for seamless WiFi roaming.
A computer scientist by training, Niall was educated in South Africa. He worked on telecoms policy for the African National Congress in the early 90s before embarking on a career developing technology businesses. He was founder of one of the first internet service providers in South Africa, launched in 1994.
