Chief Architect, VP Social Platforms
Neal Sample leads the social platform engineering effort Yahoo!. In this role, he manages the design and delivery of YOS social components, powering network experiences in Profiles, Mail, and the Yahoo! Front Page. Neal is part of the Yahoo! Open Strategy leadership team, which is deploying an open platform across Yahoo! that gives developers unprecedented access to the company’s social and data layers.
Previously, Neal Sample was the Chief Architect for Platforms at Yahoo!. Since 2004, Neal has been building community platforms and products including Groups, Profiles, Y!360, and Photos.
Prior to joining Yahoo! in 2004, Neal was a chief scientist for RightOrder, Inc. and a senior partner at Synectix Group, Inc.. Neal’s research and development accomplishments have included data indexing, techniques for the management of semi structured data, Grid computing, and data streams. He has published numerous articles and scientific papers for major international conferences.
Neal is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Wyoming with BS and MS degrees in Computer Science. He holds an MS and Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University and was a CIA Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Neal clearly liked school.
