Mike Merrill is a community builder. He enjoys leveraging social media and word of mouth marketing to mobilize individuals to take action.
Mike Merrill is Director of Marketing at ReachLocal. He also runs Bacon Marketing a boutique marketing consultancy dedicated to helping customers maximize online customer acquisition through social media marketing, sound positioning and overall branding. Mike also speaks and blogs regularly about social media and the power of personal branding. Mike is Chairman of the Social Media Club of Dallas, a group dedicated to showcasing social media marketing best practices. He also helped bring the Ignite Speaking events to Dallas.
Mike serves on the board of TeXchange DFW, the marketing advisory board of U. of Texas at Dallas for the Jindal School of Management and also participates in the Mayor Connect initiative (Digital Strategy for the City of Dallas).
Prior to founding Bacon Marketing, Mike held several outside sales roles in IT with NetApp and Dell. As a corporate marketer, Mike ran marketing for Dell’s $2 Billion higher education vertical with responsibility for driving demand for all lines of business for the US. At Dell, Mike led the development and launch of the Dell Campus Architecture, a complete technology framework for planning, procuring, implementing and managing campus IT environments. He previously held the role as Senior Brand Manager of Dell, Inc. and led the Software and Peripherals business for Education and Healthcare. In this role, Mike conceived and launched Dell’s Intelligent Classroom solution, a combination of computers and related technology such as projectors, document cameras, control systems, and student response systems that together transform the traditional K-12 and higher education classrooms into high-tech, interactive learning centers. This solution generated over $170MM to date for Dell.
Prior to Dell, Mike held various roles in product management and product marketing for two venture-backed software startups, Alventive, Inc. and Tonic Software(acquired by Symantec), developing web-based collaboration and systems management solutions. Prior to graduate school, Mike spent five years in operations management with IntelÂ®.
Mike pursued his MBA at The University of Michigan’s Ross Business School and holds undergrad degrees in Finance and Accounting from New Mexico State University. Mike resides in Plano, TX with his wife and two daughters, who, unfortunately, are also addicted to the internet and Facebook. ..And he also has a thing for bacon. But that’s a completely different story.
