Entrepreneur, gaming and animation executive, creative communications consultant.
Mauricio has over 17 years of executive management experience and multi-disciplinary expertise in strategic and crisis communications, global affairs, public policy, national security, entrepreneurship and innovation/technology issues.
He advises senior government officials and executives across Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia on how to blend traditional media, creative content and public policy with emerging platforms to achieve strategic influence objectives.
More recently, he has worked with recognized global partners on the practical implementations of complexity science and cognitive methods to understand narrative, on developing Transmedia initiatives, and how to leverage gaming and other enabling technologies to transform societies.
He is also an angel investor and board member of ZIO Studios, a leading animation and gaming studio in Latin America, which has secured US$1.9 million in funding from Promotora, a Colombian venture capital fund.
He was previously chief of staff to Colombian Vice President Francisco Santos, where he led efforts to coordinate technology and innovation policy across government agencies, the private sector, and universities.
Mauricio was born in Colombia but grew up and lived in California for nearly 25 years. There, he was part of the start-up team and Vicepresident of Strategic Planning at Xdrive Technologies, where he helped grow the company to 250 employees and led efforts to raise over US$100 million in venture capital. Xdrive was acquired by AOL in 2005.
He has also held management positions at the Intel Corporation and 20th Century Fox. He holds a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis on entrepreneurship from the University of Southern California.
