Matt Simpson is an initiative leader, in the the CIO CHQ of IBM, responsible for real time collaboration in IBM.
Currently, Matt oversees the end-to-end strategy & delivery of Sametime in IBM (the world’s largest installation of Sametime, with over 400,000 unique users.) On the web, he’s a catalyst, podcaster, blogger, and 3D virtual world hobbyist.
Originally joining IBM in 1999 as a Research Manager, Matt led Lotus Institute’s research on creative problem solving and communities of practice. He worked with Lotus Research and IBM’s Institute for Knowledge Management to help them develop an understanding of KM, collaboration, and communities before joining the IBM CIO in CHQ.
As a knowledge management leader in the IBM CIO Organization, Matt created IBM’s CommunityMap application and founded its first community of community leaders, called CommunityBuilders. Later, he led a number of other initiatives to develop and deliver collaborative tools inside IBM, including: Strategic Taxonomy Tool, Thinkplace, and Sametime. He also launched the CIO Harvesting Process through which technology is pulled from Innovation into Transform.
