Matt is senior director of communications for Zendesk, where he leads the company’s global communications team and media and analyst relations. Prior to joining Zendesk, he was a strategic consultant on social media marketing and communications and an advisor to Zuckerberg Media. His work with Zuckerberg Media has included projects for the Clinton Global Initiative and Cirque du Soleil, and he independently has consulted with startups such as Chegg. A former communications manager at Facebook, Matt helped build the PR team there as one of its first members. He led Facebook’s social media and content strategy, earlier managed Facebook’s advertising and business communications, and led its initial international growth and political outreach campaigns.
A former journalist, Matt moved into PR and marketing in 2005 to work with Silicon Valley startups, first at ZENO Group and then SutherlandGold Group. Most notably, he helped launch YouTube publicly. In 2003, he served as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow in Washington, DC. He previously was a writer and editor for Ziff Davis Media and eWEEK in San Francisco, and earlier worked at various daily newspapers. Matt graduated from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
