Mat Balez is Product Manager of Google Places (originally launched as Google Hotpot).
Prior to Google Places, he was a PM in the geo-mobile group, where he built out several features of Google Maps for mobile, including the Hotpot mobile suite.
He led the launches of Google Places on iPhone, Google Places on Android, Google Latitude on iPhone, Google Maps on the Palm Pre as well as several versions of Google Maps for Windows Mobile & Symbian S60.
Prior to joining Google, Mat was was director of product development and strategy at Defensio. Defensio has since been acquired by Websense Inc (NASDAQ:WBSN).
Before that, Mat worked in the consulting world; both for RPO Management Consultants (now a part of SECOR Group) and Syllogix, which he co-founded after grad school.
