How does a Molecular Biologist end up in marketing? After years of creating chain reactions only viewable through a microscope, Marcus yearned to put his hypothesize-and-test skills to work in an arena where he could spend more time with people and less time with protozoa. He formed Avantgarde in 1992, providing marketing strategy, branding, communications and design consulting to high-tech clients like Eastman Kodak, Broderbund, Live Picture, Storm Technology, and Now Software.
In 1997, Marcus left Avantgarde to co-found Nuvomedia, makers of the Rocket eBook, a paperback-sized electronic book. Marcus oversaw the development and implementation of all branding and awareness campaigns at Nuvomedia, culminating in the sale of the company to Gemstar in 2000.
Marcus then rejoined – and reinvented – Avantgarde, honing the company’s focus to building influencer communities for businesses in Technology, Entertainment and Design, while leveraging brands into experiential programs designed to drive sales and awarene
