In mid 2005 some friends and I built the first version of Spongecell. We changed models a couple times before finding product market fit with an ad server. Spongecell was bootstrapped twice with our own cash; prior to our A round, and then again in 2009. The second time we made it to profitability without additional capital.
It was there that I was exposed to addressable media - our ad units were some of the first interactive banners to run on AdX. I was an advocate for using data to target the media our banners ran on but in practice most campaigns driven by 3rd party data fell flat compared to contextual or other proprietary targeting.
At Enliken we’re bringing higher quality data to the marketing ecosystem by helping consumers and businesses transact with data. A transparent and fair marketplace for data will encourage consumers to upload more data, resulting in far higher quality and greater amounts of data available to every type of business.
