After early success at Alta Vista and DoubleClick Kate joined Google as Director, UK, Ireland and Benelux in 2001, notably as Google’s first employee outside the U.S. At Google she drove strong international success and over $1.5bn in revenues in 6 years.
After Google Kate was Vice President & MD Europe Bebo and then CEO AOL Europe. As head of AOL Europe, Kate Burns was responsible for setting strategy and overseeing the day-to-day operations of AOL’s UK & Ireland business. This includes working with leading agencies and advertisers to create brand experiences that take advantage of AOL’s premium content and substantial worldwide audience. Burns was also responsible for scaling AOL’s advertising products and third-party ad network, Advertising.com, and ensuring AOL offers advertisers unique consumer insights to help them better understand how consumers engage with their businesses. During her time at AOL she has led an astonishing business turnaround. Kate and her team successfully re-set the strategy and re-build the business into an efficient profit making region. Burns is a regular guest across Europe at key speaker platforms discussing topics spanning current and future trends in the media, marketing and advertising landscape. She is also a keen horsewoman and regularly competes show jumping at a senior level.
