Kaj-Erik Relander joined Accel Partners, London in 2001. He brings with him over 20 years of experience in Venture Capital, Telecommunications and IT. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at Artimi, Carrier IQ, Cambridge Broadband, Discretix, Medio, MyThings, Outsmart, Pontis, Surfkitchen, The Cloud, Ubiquisys, United Mobile, Volantis, XConnect and Zlango.
Before joining Accel, Kaj-Erik was President and CEO of Sonera Corporation, the progressive Finnish telecommunications company. Prior to this assignment, Kaj-Erik held a number of other senior management positions during his seven-year tenure with Sonera.
Prior to joining Sonera in 1994, Kaj-Erik served as Director at SITRA, a Finnish Technology investment company where he was responsible for private equity investments. In his early years while at university Kaj-Erik started and then sold his Apple software business.
Kaj-Erik has served on the Board of Directors at a variety of international companies including F-Secure (Finland), Kreatel (Sweden), TietoEnator (Finland), SmartTrust (Finland), Turkcell (Turkey), VoiceStream Wireless (USA) and Zed (Finland).
Kaj-Erik is an active member of the World Economic Forum and the EVCA.
Kaj-Erik holds a Master’s degree in Economics from the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration, with majors in International Economics and Computer Science. He later received an M.B.A. from the Helsinki School of Economics and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
