At UC Berkeley, Bloom’s research group focuses on understanding the origin of high-energy transients, particularly gamma-ray bursts, and using such transients as astrophysical probes. Bloom is principal investigator of the largest robotic infrared telescope dedicated to the study astrophysical transients. He is also co-investigator of an NSF-sponsored project to build a cyberinfrastructure for time domain astronomy.
