Jonathan Kiehnau is vice president of innovation development for American Express Company.
Prior to American Express, Jon held leadership positions at information and entertainment giant Time Warner. Based in Hong Kong, he served on the Asia-Pacific management team as president and managing director of Emphasis, a creator, syndicator and distributor of multichannel travel, tourism and brand communications. He was also managing director of Time Inc. Strategic Marketing, a business focused on monetizing content, business insights and customer behavior data.
In 2007, he was appointed global marketing officer for Club 21, a privately-held retailer with 400 stores and a collection of 30 brands including Armani; Dolce & Gabbana; Paul Smith; DKNY; Mulberry; Diesel; Calvin Klein; Super Nature, an organic grocer; COMO Shambahla, a wellness concept; and iShop, Asia’s largest Apple Premium Reseller.
An entrepreneur at heart, Jon founded his first company in middle school, and a second at the University of Wisconsin, where he also kept busy in his role as Big Ten mascot “Bucky Badger,†treasurer of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, and International Rotary Scholar. After graduation, Jon founded the Landmark Preservation Association, mentored for Student Sponsor Partners, sat on the Level Club board, and was active in the New York Athletic Club.
With a vision of a digital, portable and networked future, Jon was an early investor in social media, helping launch and build Houseparty.com, the fast-growing brand-activation and advocacy network.
