John Smelzer is a senior digital media executive, advisor and investor with 20 years of experience across the spectrum of content and platforms. Smelzer currently advises Southern California-based start-ups, including ScoreStream and TripScope and is a member of the Board of Directors of the non-profit Community First Initiatives.
Smelzer is the former CEO of MiniTime, a Los Angeles-based family travel start-up. Prior to joining MiniTime, Smelzer co-founded the publisher-centric ad network 5to1, Inc., subsequently acquired by Yahoo! Post acquisition, Smelzer served as VP, Emerging Businesses for Yahoo!
Smelzer previously served as SVP & GM of Mobile for Fox Interactive Media, Director of Business Development for NBCOlympics.com, Senior Business Affairs Counsel for the NFL and staff counsel for the 1994 World Cup Organizing Committee.
Prior to his career in sports and media, Smelzer was an associate at Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati. Smelzer earned a B.A. from UCLA and a J.D. from NYU
