Joe Hurd is a lawyer, entrepreneur and public servant. From 2009 to 2012, Hurd served as a political appointee in the United States Department of Commerce during the first term of President Barack Obama. From 2006 to 2009, he was part of the founding management team at VideoEgg, Inc. (now SAY Media, Inc.), and, prior to that, early in at Friendster. After practicing law at Linklaters in London, he joined AOL and ran business development for AOL in Tokyo (1.5 years) and Sydney (1 year). He currently serves as a board member of Bullis Charter School and the American Swiss Foundation and advises a number of start-up companies in the United States through his consulting firm, The Katama Group, LLC. Hurd lives in Los Altos, California.
