Jim Thomas is the founder and CEO of After failing to locate a good system to store and manage his own receipts in 2009, he realized that his background and expertise uniquely enabled him to formulate a viable solution. Jim established Itemize a few months later in early 2010.

Jim is in the vanguard of data analytics and applied intelligence in banking and financial services. His career in the payments and banking industry has focused on transaction analytics and business intelligence products, deploying applied mathematics, and analytics techniques against large consumer financial services data sets.

Jim has advised many global banks and payments companies on data monetization strategies. From 2003 to 2007, he was Senior Vice President and Global Practice Leader for data analytics and information products at MasterCard Worldwide, where he built and managed their information and analytics business, including Spending Pulse, Commerce Intelligence, and Commerce Coalitions.

Previously Jim served as a vice president at First Manhattan Consulting Group and held positions at Morgan Stanley and Booz-Allen & Hamilton. Jim has authored or been cited in numerous articles in many industry publications, including the American Banker, CNN, Reuters, Dow Jones, and the ABA’s Bank Marketing Magazine.

Jim has an MBA from Columbia Business School, and a Masters of International Affairs from Columbia University, with certificates in German and Swedish. Jim earned undergraduate degree in German and Economics from Franklin and Marshall College.
