Jim Harrer is a successful start-up CEO, turnaround CEO, interim CEO and an experience change management practitioner.
In 1986, Jim founded Mustang Software to develop a line of modem communication software. In 1994 he took that company public (NASDAQ:MSTG), only to be crushed by the World Wide Web in late 1995. Left for dead by wall street, Jim reinvent the company during 1996. In 1997 Jim created a new email response management system called Mustang Message Center. This product handled email inbound email to generic mailboxes (sales@, support@) for companies like Nordstrom, Dow Jones, Carnival Cruise Lines, and others. In 2000 the company was acquired for $290m.
In 2001, Jim assisted a young Internet Professional Services company, Web Associates, perform a turnaround. As their turnaround CEO Jim streamlined operations, put a new marketing program in place and improved sales processes, billing and time management.
In 2002, Jim led a turnaround for Starbase Corp. (NASDAQ:SBAS). Starbase was a 300 person, $40m+ sales, with offices around the globe. Jim rebuilt the sales and marketing departments from scratch. Starbase was cleaned up and sold to Borland in early 2003.
In 2005, Jim founded EventMingle, an event-based social networking solution for the trade show industry. EventMingle’s technology was sold in 2010.
In 2011, Jim became President of Alchemy Solutions and led the turnaround of the company.
