Jill Watz is a Venture Partner with Vulcan Capital. She is responsible for strategy and portfolio management in the clean technology sector, with specific emphasis on solar, geothermal, nuclear, advanced materials, and water technologies. Prior to joining Vulcan, she spent twelve years on the technical staff at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where she held senior management and technical research positions in applied energy technology directing multi-disciplinary research projects in the areas of oil and gas exploration and production, geothermal energy, energy storage and conversion technologies, alternative fuels and energy and climate policy. She also led industrial partnership development for energy technologies and was responsible for developing and managing energy related Cooperative Research and Development contracts between the laboratory and the private sector. She has served as a technical and policy advisor to several state and federal agencies and has worked internationally on energy and environmental technology transfer and deployment with USAID and private companies.
Jill is passionate about developing distributed energy technologies to combat poverty and advises the Millennium Village Project’s Energy Group on new technology development and business strategies. She is a participating scientist at LLNL and is also a member of the advisory council of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board.
