Jay Bregman

Jay Bregman (born New York City) is a London-based entrepreneur who co-founded UK Internet Business eCourier.co.uk.

Bregman attended Tenafly High School in Tenafly, New Jersey. He graduated from Dartmouth College in the US with a degree in Philosophy, where his thesis was a critique of Lawrence Lessig’s book Code and Other Laws of Cyberspace. He later received a Master’s degree from the London School of Economics.

His father, Dr. David Bregman, is a cardiac surgeon in the US and inventor of the Intra-aortic balloon pump.

In 2003, Bregman started eCourier.co.uk in London with fellow Dartmouth alumnus Tom Allason. They developed the idea after a failed delivery of tickets to Queen’s tennis. At the time, Bregman was taking an entrepreneurship course at the LSE. The two researched the industry, outlined the problems with traditional operators, and developed an IT platform to better them. Bregman designed “Larry”, eCourier’s intelligent despatch system, which uses Operational Research techniques to assign new orders to couriers in real time. eCourier has won a number of awards for its innovative use of technology.

Bregman speaks on technology, in particular Location Based Services and mobile technology, as well as entrepreneurship. He was a member of the Office of Fair Trading’s Futures Advisory Board, advising the regulator on new trends in the relationship between markets and government.
