Alferov - one of the largest Russian scientists in the field of semiconductor physics and technology, widely known and worldwide recognition. Author of over 500 scientific publications, including 3 monographs and more than 50 inventions.

In 2000, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded Jaures Alferov (together with Gidon Kremer) Nobel Prize in Physics for "fundamental work laid the foundations of modern information technologies through the creation of semiconductor heterostructures used in high-speed optical and electronics."
