Yun Ma 馬雲

Jack Ma is the Executive Chairman of the Alibaba Group. The group is the holding company of nine major subsidiaries. After the company’s incorporation in 1999, Ma served as Group Chairman and CEO for more than a decade, with the responsibility of overall strategy and operations. On May 10, 2013, he stepped down as CEO but remains Executive Chairman and continues to shape the group’s business strategy and management development. He currently serves on the board of SoftBank Corp, a leading digital information company that is publicly traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. He is also a Director of Huayi Brothers Media Corporation, a company listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange. In 2009 Ma was appointed as a trustee of the Nature Conservancy’s China program and joined the Global Board of Directors of the organization in 2010. Since May 11, 2013, he has served as Chair of the Nature Conservancy’s China Board of Directors. From 1998 to 1999, Ma headed an information technology company established by the China International Electronic Commerce Center, a department of Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation. In 1995, Ma founded China Yellowpages, widely believed to be China’s first Internet-based company. In 1991 he founded Hangzhou Hope Translation Agency, the number 1 translation agency in Hangzhou.

As a respected business leader, Ma was chosen by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader in 2001, and selected by China Central Television as one of the Top 10 Business Leaders of the Year in 2004. He was also named one of the 25 Most Powerful Business people in Asia by Fortune Magazine in 2005. Business Week named him Business Person of the Year in 2007 and was named one of the World’s Most Influential People by Time in 2009. Ma holds a Bachelor's Degree in English from Hangzhou University.
