Jaan Orvet is Head of Creative for digital agency Nansen (Stockholm, Chicago, London, New York). Co-founder at Skrivr, startup advisor and a believer in clarity and simplicity since birth.
Former UX & Design Director at Huddle, and Telegraph Tech Start-up 100 Award winner. Inaugural #rhok judge with founding partners NASA, The World Bank, Google, Yahoo! and Microsoft. Co-author of ‘Noded - The untouchable business’.
In 2008 coined the term “Functional Creativity” to explain the must-do approach for successful digital projects:
“Functional is easy to understand and helps us get things done. A function has value. Creativity solves problems, it has the power to inspire, guide and evolve.”
Known for his progressive approach to digital design and development, Orvet regularly presents on the topic. Recent appearances include keynoting the “Reality Check HTML5” event hosted by IDG, being a panelist at MobileBeat 2012 by Venture Beat, as well as speaking at WSA, DevTank and taking the stage for two consecutive years at HD Live.
Quote: “I believe in leading a professional and personal life cutting out complexity, doing away with ‘extras’ and turning a blind eye to ‘feature rich’ in favor of clarity and simplicity.”
In the Spring of 2009 Internetworld magazine listed Orvet’s co-authored book “Noded - The untouchable business” together with Twitter, Apple, Nintendo Wii, and Threadless as companies and ideas that “got it right” and are leading the way to the future.
