In 1995 J.J. Allaire created the web development tool Cold Fusion and co-founded Allaire Corporation. Macromedia acquired Allaire in March 2001.

In 2002 J.J. Allaire founded Onfolio to create web research, syndication, and publishing tools. Microsoft acquired Onfolio in March 2006. At Microsoft, J.J. led the integration of Onfolio products into Windows Live, including the release of the weblog publishing tool Windows Live Writer.

In 2007 J.J. Allaire co-founded Stax Networks to create a Platform-as-a-Service for Java applications.

In 2008 J.J. Allaire created the iPhone application Lose It! and founded FitNow, Inc.
