Prior to Sailthru, Ian was the chief technologist at Business Insider where he was responsible for scaling all aspects of the company’s technology from a niche online publication to one of the top five business websites globally. Before that, Ian was the Lead Developer of the music video platform at Music Nation and one of the key developers at Money-Media (acquired by the Financial Times).
Ian was the first person to use MongoDB in production besides its creators and has an extensive development background building complex, large-scale systems in multiple languages and an expertise in data mining and API and web service development. He is also the creator of the JSON-based templating language, Zephyr.
Ian is one of the inaugural Mongo Masters and has been a featured conference speaker at MongoNYC 2011, NoSQL Now!, GilbaneSF and is a frequent presenter for Meetups including the NY MongoDB User Group and the Amazon Web Services (AWS) NYC User Group. He was also recently featured on The Silicon Alley 100, as one of New York City’s most influential technology leaders.
Ian received his degree in Computer Science from Brown University.
