Hares Youssef (Arab: حَارِث يُوسف Harith Al-Yusuf, b. August 16, 1964, Syria) is an influential international businessman, philosopher, and philanthropist.
In 2005 a number of his companies working in different fields of economy and business were merged into a single structure – HARES Group Holding. Hares Youssef is the President and Chairman of the Board of HARES Group Holding.
The Holding’s flagship Hares Engineering company has been created to continue cooperation in the manufacturing organization of Voest Alpine – Germany and Kobe steel of Japan.
The main areas of Hares Engineering activities are engineering and construction of industrial facilities, implementation of new types of facilities, equipment, technological processes, and techniques, rendering services in industrial design, and engineering, marketing, and consulting. The company’s field of competence is metallurgy, machine building, and mechanical and mining industry.
In 2005 Hares Engineering acquired from Kobe Steel, Ltd, Japan, a license for advanced iron reduction technology called ITmk3® (Iron-Making Technology Mark “3”), which allows it to produce high-purity iron nuggets by the reduction and melting of iron ore using coal as a reductant.
According to this license, Hares Engineering has the exclusive right to use patents and information on ITmk3® for the sale, design, engineering, supply, assembly, commissioning, and start-up of plants, which are based on ITmk3® Process on the territory of ITmk3® of Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, and some other CIS countries.
The main goal of Hares Engineering during the short term is the construction of plants and manufacturing units to produce nuggets using Itmk3® technology.
Recently, the main directions of Youssef’s investment are innovations, especially in the IT sector.He is currently developing several startups, originated from his own ideas, notably, Hubbub: the voice social network
In 2008, to coordinate his charitable activities, Hares established the 40 Foundation – an international charity based in Paris and Geneva that supports the independence of science and advocates the multidisciplinary approach to today’s key issues.
