Chiarelli began his almost 40-year military career for the U.S. Army at Fort Lewis, Washington, as a lieutenant and platoon leader with the 9th Infantry Division. His successive advancements included positions as the Army’s Director of Operations in 2001; Commanding General of the 1st Cavalry Division and Task Force Baghdad (2004-05); and later as Commander of the Multi-National Corps-Iraq (2006). Before serving as the Army’s 32nd Vice Chief of Staff, Chiarelli was the senior military assistant to the Secretary of Defense.
Throughout his career, Chiarelli has been a strong advocate for modernizing mission command systems with technology innovation, our nation’s Wounded Warriors, and for effective treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress (PTS). Chiarelli currently serves as the CEO of One Mind for Research, a non-profit division of the International Mental Health Research Organization (IMHRO) which today is supporting research to find better diagnostics and treatments for TBI and PTS.
